H.264 and AVS are the primary video coding and decoding standards for IPTV. These standards based on technologies

such as basic conception

analysis of technical characteristics difference and trend in development

are explored in this paper

and several conclusions are formulated. The referrence to choose these standards is very necessary and absolutely feasible. Some questions and limitations are not emerged clearly

because large-scaled commercial application has not come into being for these standards. Shortage will be also appeared gradually when these standards are implemented.
