Aiming at the shortage of the current metropolitan optical transport network this article analyzes the architecture of the metropolitan area network which is divided into four layers called core layer

convergence layer and access layer down from the top of the network. Then it emphasizes some main technological methods and schemes of the metropolitan area network construction.
