In order to improve the operating efficiency of vertical axis wind turbines
micro-cylinder that move actively with the phase angle are arranged near the airfoil. NACA0021 is used as the base airfoil
the orthogonal test method was used to optimize the combination of three parameters: diameter
the moving distance and the distance from the chord length of the active micro-cylinder. The flow control mechanism of the active micro-cylinder on the vertical axis wind turbine is analyzed by CFD numerical simulation. The results show that the moving distance of the micro-cylinder is the main factor affecting the aerodynamic performance of the vertical axis wind turbine
and the better combination is 0.03c for the diameter of the micro-cylinder
0.2c for the moving distance
and 0.2c for the distance from the chord; The active micro-cylinder is more effective in the middle and low tip speed ratios
and it can inhibit the flow separation phenomenon significantly
and at the same time
it can increase the blade torque
which will then improve the aerodynamic performance of the vertical axis wind turbines.
