Volume fraction technique for measuring the minimum value of mass flow in turbine rotor-stator disk cavities
The minimum value of the cooling air flow is a critical flow rate for preventing hot gas ingestion happened in the rotor-stator disk cavity system of turbines.Experimental investigation based on volume fraction technique was performed to found the minimum values of cooling air flow of six typical rim seal structures with different rotating velocities and seal clearances. The results showed that
the minimum value of the seal air flow rate almost increases linearly with rotational velocity
and also increases with the seal clearance.Furthermore
the corresponding correlations about sealing flow rate were fitted for different structures
and an optimum option of rim seal structure was advised.
