To study the effect of swirl number on the combustion flow field of solid fuel ramjet
the experiments of connected pipe under different multiple swirl numbers (s=0.2
0.4
0.6) and non-swirl(s=0) were conducted. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) was used as a solid fuel. And simulations were conducted under conditions of s=0.6 and s=0. The results of simulation and experiment show that swirl flow is helpful to enhance the stability of flame and increase the regression rate of solid fuel and the pressure of afterburning chamber. For swirl case
the surface heat flux of solid fuel is higher than that of non-swirl case
and the chemical reaction in the combustion chamber is more efficient. Comprehensive analysis indicate that high intensity swirl flow helps to increase the combustion efficiency.
