Experimental Study on Wire Electrochemical Trimming of FGH96 Superalloy
In order to achieve the efficient precision machining of turbine slots
a combined process of wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) and wire electrochemical machining (WECM) is proposed. Taking powder FGH96 superalloyas the object
the effects of the typical process parameters of WECM trimming (WECT) were studied
including electrical parameters
feed rate
and cutting depth. With the goal of completely removing the recast layer
meanwhile considering the surface quality and machining efficiency
the process parameters were optimized: the recast layer is completely removed
and the surface roughness Ra is reduced from 2.24 μm to 0.87 μm. The feasibility experiment of the coupling WEDM and WECT process was carried out. The average machining rate of 40 mm thick parts reaches 84.86 mm²/min
and there is no recast layer on the surface. After WECT
the straightness error along the height direction of the slots is reduced by 66.9%.
