The traditional authentication methods are either based on IPTV basic services or lower-level security value-added services

taking a simple password for authentication

which is not conducive to other application with higher security requirements such as online securities. For this issue

a mechanism of authentication based on set-top boxes is presented

which is oriented to IPTV value-added services requiring high-level security. By exchanging information between the terminal middleware and platform middleware

it can enhance the security of transmitting information effectively

and make a good foundation for the development of services mentioned above.
