A new kind of electrochemical oxidation andelectrochemical reduction combining reactor was designed with the Sb doped Ti/SnOZ electrode used as an anode and aluminum plate as a cathode. Concentration of100mg/L methyl orange simulation wastewater for the study, the combiningtreatmentefficiency of electrochemicaloxidation and reduction was probed. Furthermore the degradation mechanism of methyl orange was studied preliminarily via UV-visible absorption spectrum. The results showed that under the condition of the current density of20 mA/cmZ and electrolyte concentration of 0. 10 mol/L. When the methyl orange wastewater was firsttreated bycoupling electrochemical reduction of 60 min and then by electrochemical oxidation of60minthevaluesofdecolorization rate,COD removal rate andenergyconsumption reached 94%,85% and 0. 21 kWh/g(COD),respectively. The changes of UV-Vis absorption spectrum for before and afterdegradation showed that the electrochemicalcombinationfirstbrokemethyl orange azo bond then destroyed the benzene conjugated system,so that the methylorange was degraded.
