This paper firstly introduces the measurement of data centers energy efficiency and the proportion of components

illustrating the importance of servers energy efficiency.Some energy-saving mechanisms and policies are then reviewed

including DVFS

sleeping and virtual machine placement.Finally

several key issues on research and application for the green data center are discussed.
