Abstract

Focus on the problem that the large amount of data storage caused by using the remote sensing image pyramid

and the waiting feeling of user that caused by the way that the compressed data stream can not be decompressed until it is transmitted completely

a hierarchical compression and progressive transmission system is proposed in order to release the remote sensing image to the virtual earth platform fastly and smoothly. The experimental results show that the proposed system can reduce the data storage effectively

and implement the progressive transmission of data

real-time decompression and display the tiles progressively

and relieve the feeling of waiting for the users effietively.
