Navier-Stokes(N-S)equations were solved to obtain the air-flow field around the geometry
and Eulerian method was used to obtain the water droplet trajectories.Based on these results
generalized shadow height of water droplet could be calculated by computing the vertical distance between the geometry and the freestream liquid water content (LWC) isoline.Generalized shadow height of water droplet under various flight and meteorological conditions were calculated.Locations of probe-style ice detectors were determined according to the installation requirement. With the results
effects of various flight and meteorological parameters on generalized shadow height of water droplet were analyzed
providing a guidance for choosing appropriate calculation conditions for the installation location of ice detector.
