Bionic rib groove surfaces have a wide range of applications in the aerospace engineering. In order to obtain low-cost and high-precision drag-reducing microgrooves
a numerical model for laser ablation of TC21 alloy is established in order to investigate its surface morphology evolution. This model takes into account the influence of the laser-induced plasma shielding on the ablation area and corrects the laser energy distribution
thus assisting laser processing using the numerical simulation results. Subsequently
the laser parameters are adjusted to prepare the different drag-reducing samples
and the drag-reducing effect of different samples is tested in a closed channel. The results demonstrate that the accuracy of the 2D/3D model that considers the plasma shielding effect is significantly enhanced
and the maximum drag reduction rate of the prepared TC21 samples is up to 8.7%
which is of great value in the laser micro-nano-fabrication.
